Henk Vogels Cycling Foundation Annual Dinner

Stuart O’Grady was the special guest at the annual Henk Vogels Cycling Foundation dinner last Wednesday night. 250 people enjoyed a great night at the South Fremantle Football Club as Stuart was joined by Foundation patron Henk Vogels Junior and Olympians Graeme Brown and Cameron Meyer.

The night’s interviews with Karen Tighe of ABC Sports provided listeners with entertaining accounts of Stuart’s fantastic career and experiences as a professional bike rider. Henk Vogels Junior also joined Stuart on stage and they were able to relive their experiences living and riding together over a 10 year period. It was fitting that on a night where the aim was to raise funds to assist junior athletes fulfil their potential in cycling, that Stuart and Henk were able to talk about their progression from riding together as junior athletes to competing together as team mates at Olympics, World Championships and the Tour De France.

The Henk Vogels Cycling Foundation is a charitable organisation that aims to promote, encourage and foster the sport of Cycling at all levels. They proudly support the Cycling WA Talent Identification (TID) Squad, Junior Elite Talent Squad (JETS) and the Team WA High Performance Program. All monies raised go towards the development of cycling in WA as well as contributing to community cycling projects and providing individual assistance to aspiring athletes.

With many generous auction items including Stuart’s signed CSC Jersey and Tour De France bike, Cameron Meyer’s 2008 Olympic jersey and a signed Rabobank jersey from the Tour de France, the Foundation was able to raise funds in excess of $25,000.

Thank you to Joe Florio (HVCF Board member) for all his efforts in preparing the dinner and to Ian Clark for doing a great job as MC.It was a fantastic night and we look forward to bigger and better things for the Foundation in the future.
